Opportunities for Life Regional Director

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Covington is accepting qualified candidates for an OFL Regional Director position within the agency. The position is 50% (20 hours a week).

Opportunities for Life (OFL)

OFL offers personal, confidential help to persons experiencing an untimely pregnancy. OFL is a statewide life affirming pastoral outreach ministry of Kentucky’s Bishops. OFL volunteers provide a contact 24 hours a day, offering non-judgmental support, encouragement, hope and referral information to pregnant women in need. OFL is a ministry of the Bishops of Kentucky under the direction of the Associated Catholic Charities of Kentucky.

Primary Function: Direct the state-wide programs and services of the Opportunities for Life ministry, focused principally in the Dioceses of Covington and Lexington, and collaborating with the Regional Director for the Archdiocese of Louisville and Diocese of Owensboro. Coordinate the volunteers and resources necessary to serve the mission of the ministry. Ensure that the ministry operates in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission as outlined by the Bishops of Kentucky.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field.
  • Passion for pro-life work and experience working/volunteering in a life affirming ministry.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all Diocesan matters.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and the Catholic Church.
  • Must be practicing Catholic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable with public speaking.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm and composed under stress.
  • Current driver’s license and proof of auto insurance, some travel required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Pastoral guidance and support to volunteers
Recruit, interview, and evaluate statewide volunteers
Research, develop, and produce training programs for new volunteers, as well as ongoing training for current volunteers
Organize and facilitate yearly gathering of volunteers

Supervise volunteers
Direct and supervise statewide network of volunteers, using expertise of Catholic Charities’ Pregnancy Counselors when appropriate
Insure that volunteers provide appropriate, concrete, pastoral support and current resources to individuals seeking assistance
Maintain online calendar for helpline

Identify, develop and evaluate community resources for inclusion in OFL database
Research and investigate new community resources
Develop and implement referrals
Maintain database information

Networking and communicating
Collaboration with Regional Program Director for Louisville/Owensboro regarding statewide marketing and day to day operations
Network with other KY Catholic Charities; maintain regular, ongoing contact with the adoption and pregnancy counselors
Network with community social service agencies statewide; meet with/visit pregnancy care centers in the region
Network with the staff of the regional Catholic Dioceses (respect life, family life, pro-life, youth ministry offices, etc.)
Communicate with volunteers via email, phone calls and newsletter

Promote OFL ministry
Meet with Catholic grade school and high school staff and students, parish youth ministers, respect life, pro-life and family life staff etc., to promote awareness of OFL’s ministry through pro-life club activities, projects, information sessions, etc.
Encourage more active involvement by the OFL Advisory Council members to promote OFL

Developing and producing public information and education
Produce and present public presentations and workshops
Coordinate and develop advertising/marketing opportunities
Oversee telephone directory and other advertising decisions
Explore and develop new ways of reaching clients using advanced internet based and other communications technology
Oversee and maintain, design of promotional materials and website

Fiscal management and policy development and management
Prepare and oversee implementation of annual budget
Provide information for annual January OFL diocesan collection
Coordinates donations made to OFL
Develop written policies and procedures for program operations

Meet with OFL Advisory Councils; assist Bishops in recruiting Advisory Council members
Meet 3-4 times a year with OFL Advisory Councils, report on activities and seek advice on the policies & practices of OFL
Collaborate with other Regional Director of OFL to provide program report to the Bishops of Kentucky annually
Collaborate with other Regional Director of OFL to provide quarterly report for Catholic Charities of Kentucky Directors

We offer an excellent benefit package including: 3 weeks paid vacation (adjusted upwards for longevity prorated based on FTE), 14 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days -(prorated based on FTE), single health insurance plan -(prorated based on FTE), fully paid pension (tax sheltered annuity), long-term disability, life insurance, business travel mileage reimbursement and job scheduling flexibility.

Salary range: $17,000-$21,000 depending on education and experience
