Job Title: Food Pantry Outreach Coordinator

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Covington, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to launch and manage the startup of a mobile food pantry program in the rural counties of the Diocese of Covington. This is a unique opportunity for someone to put their faith in action in a tangible way by helping to address hunger and be the face of Christ in the outlying area of our diocese that has limited resources and is considered a food desert. 

Non-exempt, part-time, hourly position, averaging 20 hours a week

Position summary:

This position is responsible for building relationships and establishing partnerships within the rural counties of the Diocese of Covington to create and/or expand food distribution utilizing a mobile pantry, local building space and local collaborations for families in need of service. Recruit and direct volunteers as needed for implementation of services

Educational and Experiential Criteria:

  • Associate degree in Business, Social Work or related field recommended and 3-5 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of computer systems.

  • Must be a self-starter who can see what needs to be done and execute a plan of action to create a ministerial enterprise from scratch.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, to accept and use supervision appropriately.
  • Must be an outgoing individual, with demonstrated skills in effective communication and listening who can convey the vision and needs in a compelling manner.
  • Ability to work well with other staff, volunteers and community partners in a collaborative effort to improve services.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide accurate information and feedback.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
  • Must own a car with valid driver’s license and insurance
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Practicing Roman Catholic  

Duties & Responsibilities

·       Establish and maintain positive working relationship with our distribution site partners in the rural counties. Establish new partnerships as needed.

·       Ensure that each distribution site has all the needed supplies each month (Computers, name tags, forms, etc.)

·       Work in collaboration with the supplier (Free Store Food Bank or others) to order and have food delivered for the Mobile Pantry locations. Work to ensure that food orders meet the needs of the community and stay within the budget limits.

·       Recruit and Train volunteers. Ensure there are enough volunteers to assist at the distribution sites. Ensure volunteers are properly trained on the duties of the day and there are volunteers who can use designated Pantry software.

·       Accurately record and report volunteer information, demographics. Recognize and support volunteers.

·       Conduct client service surveys to better identify community needs at each site once a year.

·       Gather stories and pictures monthly from distributions that can be used for marketing and promotional needs.

·       Comply with all food guidelines and reporting requirements set forth by the supplier.

·       Act as a main contact for all partners for problem solving, agency training, development and growth needs.

·       Provide end of month report to Catholic Charities.

·       Ensure required reporting from pantries occurs each month.

Actual benefits are determined by full time vs. part-time schedules.

Physical demands: position requires traveling in car, physical standing for up to 3 hours and lifting up to 40 pounds, normal lift is <10 pounds.
