Catholic Charities, Diocese of Covington is seeking one individual for our School Based Substance Abuse counseling program for adolescents. This position is 100% (5 days- a week 40 hours) for upcoming school year Aug 16, 2015-May 31, 2016 position. This individual reports to Catholic Charities’ Substance Abuse Treatment Supervisor.

Educational and Experiential Criteria:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work or Human Services field with 2 years’ experience preferred, Licensed or license eligible
  • Holds a CADC (Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor) or equivalent Chemical Dependency license or certificate in the state of Kentucky, or eligibl

Desired Skills and Qualifications include:

  • Assessment, diagnosis, treatment of adolescents
  • Engagement skills with parents and school staff
  • Public speaking, classroom management skills
  • Creative, flexible approach to meet student and school needs
  • Case documentation
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
  • Basic computer skills necessary

Substance Abuse School Counseling Program Responsibilities:

  • Implement Substance Abuse counseling in two schools- Bishop Brossart High School & Boone County High School (100% 9.5 months school year).
  • Classroom visits at the beginning of the year to familiarize students with the program and provide opportunities for them to refer themselves.
  • Provide assessments, diagnosis and treatment of referred adolescents by collecting background information; meeting with the student at school and making recommendations to parents and teachers on the student’s behalf.
  • Provide on-going mental health and substance abuse counseling for students where it is deemed urgent and productive.
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies, community services, and other resources as needed.
  • Provide on-going counseling for students where it is deemed urgent and productive.
  • Conduct Substance Abuse Prevention groups with established curriculum.
  • Provide appropriate outreach to students and families (i.e. classroom presentations, parent awareness meetings, etc.) regarding the impact of substance abuse.
  • Comprehensive school interventions that meet the school’s need.
  • Consult and coordinate with school personnel and other providers of services to students.
  • Meet for regular supervision with Administrative and Clinical Supervisors.
  • Maintain the best practices in counseling through consultation and supervision provided by the agency and through the clinician’s own resources; Keep all records current and in compliance with the quality assurance program and accreditation standards.

Applicant must own a car with valid driver’s license and insurance.

As a Catholic Charities employee you will be offered an excellent benefit package including: 3 weeks paid vacation(adjusted upwards for longevity), 14 holidays, 10 sick days, 2 personal days, single health insurance plan, fully paid pension (tax sheltered annuity), disability, life insurance plan and job flexibility. All leave time is prorated to 79.17%FTE

Salary range $34,500 - $53,500 prorated to 79.17% FTE based on education, experience and licensure in this field
